This is a vintage, hand-tinted postcard/photograph of Srinagar, Kashmir, captured looking down the Jhelum River in the early 20th century (circa 1900–1906).
Key Features in the Image
Fateh Kadal (The 3rd Bridge): The prominent wooden cantilever bridge in the foreground crossing the Jhelum River. Its piers showcase the traditional Kashmiri kadals engineered with stacked deodar timber logs layered like cantilever cribwork.
Khanqah-e-Moula (Shah-i-Hamadan Mosque): Visible immediately downriver on the right bank, recognizable by its distinct multi-tiered sloping pagoda-style roofs and central wooden spire (chhatri / minaret). It is one of the oldest wooden shrines in the valley, founded in honor of Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani.
Hari Parbat (Koh-i-Maran) & Fort: The prominent hill rising in the background beneath the clouds, crowned by the ramparts of the Hari Parbat Fort.
Traditional Vernacular Riverfront Architecture: The densely packed brick-and-timber waterfront houses (Taq and Dhajji Dewari structures) lining both banks, along with traditional boats on the water.
