This artwork is a reproduction of an original oil/watercolour painting rather than a photograph, titled A Shepherdess, created by British artist Helen R. Pirie circa 1900–1908.

Identity & Origins:
Published in the book Kashmir: The Land of Streams and Solitudes, written by P. Pirie and illustrated with color plates and monochrome drawings by H. R. Pirie, published in 1909 by John Lane / The Bodley Head (London & New York).
Subject & Location: It depicts a young transhumant shepherd girl (from the pastoral Bakarwal / Gujjar communities) grazing her sheep along the highland meadows. The Pirie sisters documented pastoral life along high-altitude routes connecting the Kashmir Valley, the Pir Panjal ranges, and northern passes toward the Astore and Gurez valleys.

Print on 400 gsm card stock by Print Club Kashmir at Islamabad(Anantnag).
